north east breeders

Hi all, hoping someone out there can help!
We have decided to try to find a reputable breeder in the north east region that have a litter planned this spring. We want a pet, and have no intentions to breed whether its a dog or bitch, so the pedigree line is irrelevant to us, but want a sound, healthy dog. We have looked online, but seem to find an awful lot of back yard breeders which we want to stay away from. Although we did get Floyd from a home breeder with no papers, and he was mint!
Any advice would be welcome!

Have you checked the Kennel Club website? I couldn't find any in North East but there were some in North West http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/services/public/findapuppy/display.aspx?breed=3080&area=3

I know you say that Pedigree isn't important but in my experience reputable breeders (i.e. appropriate health checks etc.) only have registered litters.

Breeders of unregistered dogs seem to be less aware (or worse, concerned) about the potential hereditary problems.

Looking again, I may have misunderstood. You may have meant quality of line rather than registered at all. If so sorry, only trying to help lol.

No Steve. Papers are not important to us but the breeder is. We want a responsible breeder and not one who is in it for the cash.

We don't feel rescuing is the way forward for us and we are trying to stay away from back yard breeders.

I found Champdogs to be the best website. Breeders selling unregistered dogs cannot really be referred to as "reputable" simply because you have no History of the Dog and very rarely health checks.

You may have to travel to get a registered dog. Be careful with unregistered dogs unless you know the Breeder personally.

I think we may have crossed wires Steve. What I mean is that we are not after a pup with the best line. We will not be looking for an unregistered one. Would you class anyone not on champdogs or the kennel club sites as back street breeders? We would appreciate any help anyone could give us.

yes i would, i know some may have the best interest of the breed but i would doubt any of them would do any health tests or even know about the health issue in staffy, i know there also some bad KC breeders also but you can weed out the good one from the bad one

Thanks Steve. Our plan now is to email a few of the breeders listed on champdogs to see if there are any litters planned. We are quite flexible and ideally looking to bring the pup home April May or June so fingers crossed we can find the right breeder for us.

if you come an cross and breeder who add you to their list i can check and see if they been health tested and see how inbred they are

Sky, we've already said you shouldn't be breeding. Your dog is already in heat apparently and you don't know a thing about breeding.

Lynn and Pete, good luck finding your pup just make sure they've been health checked for L2HGA as even pedigree KC registered dogs can be affected as the breeder who my friends dog and bitch are from weren't tested and unfortunately we've bore the brunt.

I have been reading up about L2HGA, and it sounds horrific! Definitely a stipulation with the new member of the family!!

Yeah. The litter in Hull. We're on the list for 1 of the 3 girls she had.

Quick update. We are going for a visit next Saturday and we have 2 black bitches to choose from. If the breeder and their vet are happy with them we'll be bringing Theia home mid May.

great i'm glad someone took my advice

We had already noticed this litter but when you also put us onto them that gave us the green light to get in touch. We thought Hull was a little far for us to go but as it turns out one of them is going to Somerset and one is off to Denmark! They still have one left too if anyone is looking for a pup. They are a lovely litter from a fantastic little dam and fantastic breeders.
